Location: Beira and central coast of Mozambique
Event: Tropical Cyclone Chalene is currently expected to make landfall near Beira in the morning of Wednesday, December 30. President Nyusi urged those living in areas of risk to evacuate. The National Meteorological Institute of Mozambique highlighted Sofala and Zambezia provinces as most vulnerable. Expect torrential rains and strong winds with possible flooding, landslides, power outages and difficult travel conditions. Expect increased rainfall levels and winds throughout the central coast of Mozambique.
Actions to Take:
- Avoid travel to central provinces until the storm has dissipated.
- Monitor the local news for updates.
- Seek secure shelter and consider evacuation.
- Visit the Joint Typhoon Warning Center and Tropical Storm Risk for updated storm tracking information.
