Weather Alert – Tropical Storm Gombe

Location:  Northern Mozambique 

Event:  Tropical Storm Gombe is developing off the northern coast of Madagascar.  The storm is expected to make landfall as a tropical cyclone or intense tropical storm in Mozambique’s Nampula Province late Thursday or early Friday, March 10-11, 2022.  Mozambican authorities issued a “red alert” regarding extremely high winds, dangerous storm tides, heavy rainfall, and flooding in the provinces of Nampula and Zambezia.

Actions to Take:

  •  Reconsider travel to the provinces of Nampula and Zambezia until the storm has dissipated.
  •  Monitor the local news for updates.
  •  Seek secure shelter.
  •  Follow directions from local officials and take other appropriate actions as needed.
  •  Visit the Joint Typhoon Warning Center and Tropical Storm Risk for updated storm tracking information.
