Americans May Now Register Online
We are pleased to introduce the new Internet-Based Registration System (IBRS) for U.S. citizens who wish to register with the Embassy. IBRS will enable U.S. citizens to register themselves and members of their households online, and provide the Embassy with in-country contact information as well as emergency contact information of family members and friends in the United States. Registering in our system will enable consular officials to provide American travelers with regularly updated Warden information pertaining to safety and security, U.S. elections news, and other important information relating to local conditions. Additionally, registering with the Embassy will make it easier to help U.S. citizens in the event of an emergency.
All U.S. citizens traveling or residing in Mozambique have the ability to register under three separate registration categories: short-term, long-term, and organizational. Short-term registration is for those travelers who will be on temporary visits to the country. Long-term registration is for those travelers who are either residing in Mozambique, or making extended, frequent trips to Mozambique. Organizational registration is for groups — such as those in the travel and business industries — that wish to receive updated consular information when it becomes available.
All personal information received by Embassy officials pursuant to the registration process, whether the registration is done in person or online, is safeguarded against unauthorized disclosure by the Privacy Act of 1974. Personal information obtained
in the registration process is not used to track the movements of individual American citizens. Rather, it is used to provide Americans with up-to-date information, and to better provide assistance in cases of emergency.
Please note that registration through the IBRS is not considered proof of U.S. citizenship. Should an individual apply for any American citizen services at the Embassy, he or she will be required to provide proof of U.S. citizenship, such as a U.S. passport or American birth certificate. In the event of loss or theft of a U.S. passport, consular officials will provide assistance in establishing proof of citizenship and/or identity.
